eClinicalWorks’ Customer Demonstrates Improvement in Care Outcomes with Electronic Health Records
WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—December 17, 2014—eClinicalWorks®, a leader in ambulatory healthcare IT solutions, congratulates Nebraska’s Fremont Family Care (FFC) on being awarded a Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Ambulatory Davies Award of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding achievement of organizations that have used health IT, specifically electronic health record (EHR)-enabled improvement, to notably improve patient outcomes while achieving return on investment. This is the 12th eClinicalWorks’ customer to receive a HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence in the past seven years.
FFC is a non-profit subsidiary of Fremont Health. The organization serves patients of all age groups with four, full-time family practice physicians, one physician assistant and a nurse practitioner. In 2010, FFC implemented eClinicalWorks EHR as a unified practice management and EHR solution to help improve the quality of patient care, streamline workflow and generate a return on investment.
“Fremont Family Care has made significant process changes since implementing our EHR system, helping demonstrate substantial measureable improvements,” said Beth Belmont, APRN, director of primary care clinics at Fremont Family Care. “We have successfully implemented an EHR that works in tandem with our quality of care initiatives, enabling our medical providers to deliver the best care possible. Tools designed to promote preventative care and chronic care outcomes have benefitted both our providers and patients. We are honored to receive this prestigious award.”
According to information on the HIMSS Web site, the practice’s use of technology combined with a cultural change in care delivery has aided FFC in achieving positive care outcomes, including a 50 percent decrease in the number of patients hospitalized for pneumonia, a notable increase in providing the correct preventative care to at-risk patients and a significant increase in the amount of diabetic patients who keep their hemoglobin A1c levels under control. Additionally, the rate of patients, who were 50-75 years of age, that had a colonoscopy rose from 37 percent in the first quarter of 2011 to 70 percent in the second quarter of 2014. Mammogram screening for women 50-74 years of age doubled during that same period.
“Fremont Family Care has accomplished amazing results in utilizing technology in its care outcomes initiatives,” said Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “The wonderful success this practice has achieved after the eClinicalWorks implementation demonstrates the real clinical and practical value of our EHR. This shows how healthcare technology can work together with medical providers to deliver the best possible care. We congratulate Fremont Family Care on receiving this award.”
FFC will be recognized at the 2015 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, April 12-16 in Chicago, according to HIMSS officials.
