Report Recording Usage of EHRs Among Medicare Providers Shows Progress in Utilization
WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—July 19, 2012—A June 2012 report by the Office of the Inspector General offers a look into the utilization of electronic health records (EHR) solutions. This report, titled Use of Electronic Health Records in 2011 Among Medicare Physicians Providing Evaluation and Management Services, shows progress in adoption, signaling that many practices are on board. It found that:
- 57% of Medicare physicians used an EHR system in 2011 in their primary practice location
- 95% of those used their system to document patient evaluation and management services, where previously they would do so manually
- 22 percent of the physicians, the largest percentage of physicians, began using EHR systems in 2011, which is the same year that the HITECH ACT incentive program began.
The report recorded responses from more than 1,500 Medicare physicians on use of EHRs in 2011. The data found that eClinicalWorks is the product utilized more than any other single product by the physician practices surveyed.
“eClinicalWorks works with medical providers to ensure its workflow is intuitive, making it easier to utilize,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “This is shown in our successful market traction, including counting more than one third of the country’s community health centers as customers. We are pleased to see that reflected in this report.”
