eClinicalWorks Achieves Integration with Over 1,000 Hospitals

ORLANDO, Fla. - (Business Wire) eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that the company has completed interfaces with more than 1,000 hospitals. These include bi-directional interfaces for labs, radiology and discharge summaries for hospitals using Meditech, Cerner, Siemens, Eclipsys, McKesson and others. This integration allows patient care information, including discharge summaries and medication lists, to be shared between the hospitals and their regular physician, promoting improved coordination of care.

“Our members are affiliated with a nationally recognized hospital, known for its technology leadership,” said David Katz, Director of the Ambulatory Technology Group at El Camino Hospital. “El Camino and IPECH were looking for a way to clinically connect community physicians, with each other and with our Allscripts in-patient system. Our physician advisory council selected eClinicalWorks for the solution's intuitive nature and workflow, and its commitment to interoperability.”

“Our goal in establishing a community health record is to increase the quality of care and patient safety while lowering costs,” said Mitch Kwartler, Director of Information Systems of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System. “We chose eClinicalWorks in part because of the intuitive nature of the product and its inherent connectivity supporting our clinical integration strategy. The level of integration between our eClinicalWorks ambulatory system and the Cerner in-patient system will allow all physicians treating a patient to be able to view and update the community EHR, taking the burden off of the patient in keeping all providers up-to-date on treatments received and medications, thus improving overall patient care.”

“MACIPA's hallmark is our emphasis on innovation and we are continually working to improve our clinical and information systems to provide better patient care,” said Dr. Barbara Spivak, president of Mount Auburn Cambridge Independent Practice Association, Inc. “eClinicalWorks' electronic health record is a very versatile product which allows us to interface with other systems, e.g. Meditech and Quest labs. By creating interfaces with eClinicalWorks, we are able to expand and enhance the electronic health record for our physicians, putting more of the information that is vital to the care they provide their patients in one place, on their desktops. We are also working on a community record, again with eClinicalWorks, and its eEHX product. Our physicians are eagerly awaiting our launching eEHX because it will improve communication with each other and broaden their understanding of our patients' needs. eClinicalWorks is a cornerstone of our innovative work to improve the quality of patient care.”

“Norman Regional Health System has long seen the value in connecting its providers via a community health record,” said Dr. Brian Yeaman, CMIO for Norman Regional Health System. “Part of the reason we selected eClinicalWorks was its commitment to ensuring its solutions work well with our current systems, including interfacing with Meditech. We have proven interoperability not only between eClinicalWorks and our inpatient unit, but have also utilized eEHX to connect to another HIE. This allows us to exchange clinical data over a regional network combining data from virtually every major inpatient and EHR vendor in the state of Oklahoma. Using eClinicalWorks aided us in achieving many milestones, including having one of our providers be the first to receive a check for demonstrating meaningful use.”

eClinicalWorks is a fully unified solution for practices, enterprise groups, hospitals both employed and affiliated, and academic health centers of all sizes and most specialties, linking all features via a single database. It emphasizes preventative care through features including clinical decision support, order sets and registry reporting. Connecting the eClinicalWorks system with the in-patient system of their affiliated hospital further automates physicians in an effort to foster better, more efficient care in both the in-patient and ambulatory settings.

“As has been demonstrated in other industries, technology silos don't work and that is especially true in healthcare,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Since the beginning, we have built our product using industry standards that promote interoperability, making it easier for our customers to gain the most advantages out of their systems. We have had great success in working with Meditech systems, along with many others.”
